Rules & Regulations

Eligibility Criteria for Admission:

For admission to Undergraduate courses (UG) a candidate must have passed the higher secondary examination (10 +2) of TamilNadu or an examination (like CBSE) recognized by the universities as equivalent thereto.

The upper age limit for admission to UG courses is 24 (Twenty Four) years as on 1st July of the year of admission. A relaxation of two years is admissible the to Physically challenged as per GO No.239 dated 03-09-1993.

The supplementary candidates are incorporated in the appropriate places in the rank list and they are eligible for admission if vacancies exist or arise.

Rules of Reservation:
The admission shall be made purely on the basis of merit, subject to the rules of the Govt. of Tamil Nadu. The reservation rules are followed as per the guidelines given by the State Government from time to time. At present reservation policy is followed in the following war:

  • 31% for Open competition. (OC)
  • 30% for Backward classes (BC)
  • 20% for Most Backward classes & Denotified  Communities (MBC )
  • 18% for Scheduled castes (SC) and 1% for Scheduled Tribes (ST)

Reservation is also given to the following categories as per guidelines of the State Government.

  • Physically challenged students.
  • Quota for ex-service men / Tamil students of Andaman and Nicobar  Islands.
  • Quota for outstanding sports persons.

Procedure for admission to PG courses:

For admission to Post graduate courses (PG), a candidate must have passed 3 years degree courses (under 10 + 2 + 3  pattern ) recognized by the university or any other examination as equivalent thereto. All graduates in any discipline are eligible for admission to Postgraduate courses in a language if they have studied the language either under part I or part II and if they have the required percentage of marks as per university norms.
